Immigrants: Now More Essential than Ever

At this year's 2020 Annual Gala, the Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) will honor the achievements of immigrant essential workers who are playing a key role in upholding our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges this population faces, immigrant essential workers continue to contribute to the well-being of our communities, often risking their health.

As you know, CMS a think tank and educational institute dedicated to the study of international migration, to the promotion of understanding between immigrants and receiving communities, and to public policies that safeguard the rights of dignity and rights of immigrants, refugees, and newcomers.

As a think tank and educational institute, CMS has responded to the crisis by publishing a series of reports on immigrant essential workers in the United States and created a regularly updated webpage on COVID-19 policies that affect immigrants and refugees in the country. CMS also provided a weekly update on policy developments affecting immigrants and refugees in the United States. In May 2020, CMS hosted webinars on the impact on immigrant communities in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama including detained immigrants. In planning a response to the future of immigration policies in the country, CMS has also worked on outlining first-year policies that an incoming administration can adopt to create a more just immigration and refugee protection system.

Join us on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 7 PM, ET as we celebrate essential immigrant workers and the difference they are making during the current pandemic (click here to register). We invite you to make a donation to support CMS' important work. Your gift, will make a difference as we continue working in service of the immigrant community and in solidarity with a world community of immigrants and refugees.
